The No. 12/11 University of Minnesota Gophers recorded a season high 14 hits in a 10-1 victory over UC Davis in five innings this afternoon. They now have three run-rule wins and are 10-0 on the season.
Danielle Parlich, MaKenna Partain and Sydney Dwyer all notched three hits. Partain and Dwyer each had three RBIs. Partain is hitting .533 and Dwyer is hitting .500 with 14 RBIs this season.
Tori Finucane picked up her first victory of the season in the circle. She was dominant only allowing one hit and no earned runs through four innings.
The Gophers got out to a quick start scoring three runs on four hits and were aided by three Aggie errors in the top of the first inning. Sam Macken and Parlich hit back-to-back singles to start things off. Kendyl Lindaman later singled as Macken came home on an error.
Partain and Dwyer recorded back-to-back RBIs for the next two scores with a single and a sacrifice fly, respectively.
Parlich, Houlihan and Partain all singled to load the bases in the third inning. Dwyer plopped a single right in front of the pitcher to score Parlich. Sara Groenewegen stepped up and recorded an RBI groundout and Dani Wagner ripped an RBI single through the left side for another three run inning.
UC Davis got their lone hit of the game in the bottom of the third but were quickly shut down by Finucane and the Maroon and Gold field.
Macken singled to get things going in the fourth but UC Davis attempted to stop the momentum forcing back-to-back fly outs. Lindaman drew a walk putting runners on first and second for Partain. The freshman stayed hot with a deep hit to the warning track in center for a triple and two more RBIs.
Allie Arneson added the last Minnesota run in the fifth inning. She blasted a home run over the left field wall for her second of the season. Carlie Brandt came in to pitch in the bottom of the fifth and did not allow a hit in three quick outs.
The Gophers will play again this evening against Fresno State with first pitch set for 5:30 p.m. Don't forget to follow along on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all season long to keep up with the latest news, features, videos and more!
