For the fourth time in six home duals so far this season, Minnesota welcomed a top-five foe to the Spots Pavilion on Sunday when No. 3 Iowa visited for the 102nd installment in the greatest rivalry in college wrestling. Minnesota won three of the afternoon's final five matches, but an early deficit was too much to overcome for the Gophers in front of a season-best crowd of 3,749.

Minnesota picked up wins at 141, 197 and 285 pounds. The first of those came at 197, where No. 2 Brett Pfarr earned his third consecutive tech fall with a 19-4 win over Mitch Bowman. It's the first time in senior's career that he has picked up tech falls in three straight matches. This recent run also gives him seven for the season, a new career best.

No. 8 Michael Kroells followed at heavyweight with a 7-0 decision over Steve Holloway. The win gave Kroells 22 on the season, keeping pace with Pfarr at the top of the team standings.

The dual wrapped at 141 with No. 13 Tommy Thorn knocking off Topher Carton, 3-2. Thorn hit a nice fireman's carry in the first period to go ahead 2-0 and then scored the match-winning point with an escape in the third.

The Gophers wrap up their home season this on the home mat at the Sports Pavilion against No. 4 Ohio State. Sunday is also Senior Day, with the Gophers honoring at halftime a six-man senior class that includes: Sam Brancale, Jordan Bremer, Brandon Kingsley, Michael Kroells, Ben Morgan and Brett Pfarr. Tickets for that dual are currently available on MyGopherSports.com.
