The No. 7/7 University of Minnesota Gophers took down Oregon State 6-0 this afternoon moving to 22-2 on the season. Sara Groenewegen threw a complete game shutout with 14 strikeouts and is now 10-1 this year.
The Gophers put their first two batters on before the game went into a rain delay for over an hour. They came back out of the break swinging away with Kendyl Lindaman, Sydney Dwyer and Sara Groenewegen all recording singles. The Gophers put up three runs on three hits and were aided by two errors in the first frame.
Groenewegen struck out the side in the bottom of the first starting what would end up being another gem in the circle. She has a 0.71 ERA with 90 strikeouts after picking up her tenth win this season.
Sydney Dwyer racked up her sixth double of the season in the third inning scoring two more Gophers runs. She is already up to 32 RBIs this season.
The Gophers did not get on the board again until the top of the seventh. Lindaman led off crushing a home run over the wall in center and now has a team leading six home runs this season.
Oregon State threatened in the bottom of the seventh loading up the bases with two outs. In a fitting ending Groenewegen got a batter swinging to get out of the jam and seal the victory.
MaKenna Partain out of Banks, Ore. had a nice fan section at the game and put up another three hit performance. She is not slowing down now up to a .486 batting average on the season. Lindaman, Dwyer and Groenewegen all had two hit games.
The Gophers will have a day off from games before taking on California Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. They will close out their spring break with a doubleheader against Pacific on Friday starting at 2 p.m.
