Minnesota's Home Finale Set for Saturday

Minnesota men's gymnastics welcomes UIC to the Sports Pavilion this Saturday, March 18 at 3:00 p.m. CT for the final home meet of the season.

LAST TIME OUT
No. 5 Gophers picked up wins over No. 8 Iowa and No. 15 Arizona State after posting a score of 411.200. The Gophers earned gold on every event except parallel bars. Alex Wittenberg scored a season-high 14.750 on floor for the win. Zach Liebler made his return to the floor lineup with a solid 14.550 for silver. Teammates Vitali Kan and Justin Karstadt shared first place on pommel horse with scores of 14.350. The mark was a personal record for Kan. Yaroslav Pochinka led the field on rings with a 14.300. Minnesota swept the podium on rings, and broke the 70 point barrier for the first time this season. Pochinka picked up another gold on vault with a 14.800. Gagnon finished second on parallel bars with a 13.850, he was not in the original lineup. Shaun Herzog won the high bar title with a 14.200. Karstadt also won the all-around competition.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
UIC enters the weekend ranked 18th in the nation with a four score average of 377.550. The team's top score so far has been a 387.700. The team's lone win of the season was at the Midwest Open, where they competed along side club programs from Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota. The Gophers met UIC at the Windy City Invite to open the 2017 season, where the Gophers placed fourth and the Flames took sixth.

SALUTE TO SENIORS
Minnesota will honor the program's two seniors, Zach Liebler and Mitchell Soukup. While both have had injury setbacks, Liebler is a three-time All-American and Soukup is a strong rings competitior for the team.

KARSTADT NAMED B1G GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
Karstadt was selected as the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week after his performance last weekend. Karstadt won the all-around competition with an 82.550 and shared gold on pommel horse (14.350). He also had a second-place finish on rings (14.200). The honor was the first for a Gopher since Liebler was selected last March.
