REGULAR SEASON FINALE
The fifth-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers will travel to Lincoln, Neb. this Saturday, March 25 for the second meeting against No. 6 Nebraska this season. The Gophers took the win in early February, and have topped the Huskers during the regular season in each meeting since 2011. Competition is set to begin at 4 p.m. and will be televised live on BTN, BTN2GO and the BTN2GO mobile app.
LAST TIME OUT
Minnesota topped the University of Illinois at Chicago with a team score of 413.500. The Gophers swept the podium on each event, and the win marked an undefeated home season. The Maroon and Gold earned their highest scores of the season on floor and pommel horse. Yaroslav Pochinka led the team with two event titles, on rings and vault.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
The Cornhuskers enter the weekend coming off a loss to Iowa (408.300-400.000). Austin Epperson won event tittles on floor and parallel bars, while Anton Stephenson earned gold on vault. Like Minnesota, Nebraska ranks in the top 10 on all six events. The Huskers have been hot on vault, earning a improving their season-high score for the past three weeks.
LIEBLER NAMED NISSEN-EMERY AWARD FINALIST
Gopher Zach Liebler is one of eight finalists for the prestigious Nissen-Emery Award. It is given annualy to the given annually to the nation's outstanding senior gymnast and is the most coveted award in collegiate gymnastics.
TEN GOPHERS EARN ACADEMIC ALL-BIG TEN ACCOLADES
Men's gymnastics was well represented in the winter sport Academic All-Big Ten honors, with ten recepients. To be elligible, students must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic institution and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Honorees included: Luke Aldrich (Biology), Ryan Bergman (Journalism), Joel Gagnon (Aerospace Engineering), Justin Karstadt (Undeclared), Jack Kramer (Aerospace Engineering), Liebler (Business Marketing and Education), Pochinka (Neuroscience), Ben Winkel (Electrical Engineering) and Alex Wittenberg (Journalism).
B1G CHAMPIONSHIPS UP NEXT
Minnesota will have a week off before postseason begins at the 2017 Big Ten Championships April 7-8 in Champaign, Ill. Both days begin at 6 p.m. CT and will be televised live on BTN.
