University of Minnesota sophomore Justin Karstadt has been named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the second time this season after a standout performance in Minnesota's win at Nebraska, announced today by the league office.
Karstadt totaled an 87.050 to win gold in the all-around competition, becoming just the fourth gymnast in the nation to score above an 87.000, and first in the Big Ten Conference this season.
In addition to his all-around performance, Karstadt also won event titles on both rings and parallel bars. Each event score was above the 14.000 mark. By event, Karstadt scored a 14.250 on floor, 14.550 on pommel horse, 14.700 on rings, 14.650 on vault, 14.600 on parallel bars and 14.300 on high bar.
His all-around and rings performances were both personal records, while his scores on floor, pommel horse, parallel bars and high bar were each season highs.
This is Karstadt's second Big Gymnast of the Week honor. He was recognized earlier this season after Minnesota's wins over Iowa and Arizona State.
The Golden Gophers will have a week off to fine tune before traveling to the 2017 Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championships from April 7-8 in Champaign, Ill.
