Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota heads to Lawrence, Kan. Tuesday to play a two-game series against the University of Kansas Jayhawks.
The first game of the series is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday then the second game is to begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Gophers are 14-8 overall this season and picked up their first three Big Ten victories this weekend after sweeping Ohio State.
The Maroon and Gold have a .287 team batting average while Jordan Kozicky is batting .385 (10-26) and Luke Pettersen has a .373 average (28-75). Jordan Smith and Toby Hanson lead the team with 16 RBIs and Smith also leads the squad with four home runs.
Alex Boxwell has scored 21 runs and has stolen six bases, both lead highs. Defensively, Minnesota has turned 22 double plays while senior catcher Matt Stempber has thrown out five base runners.
The two midweek starters will be Reggie Meyer and Nolan Burchill. Meyer is 0-0 this season in one start with a 4.60 ERA. He has made five appearances out of the bullpen where he has struck out nine batters. Burchill is 1-2 in three starts. The freshman has a 4.85 ERA and has struck out nine batters.
Brian Glowicki leads the bullpen with eight saves and a 0.63 ERA. He has struck out 16 batters. Tim Shannon has made 12 appearances where he has two saves, compiled ten strikeouts and has a 2.40 ERA.
About Kansas
The Jayhawks are 10-13 after dropping two games of a three-game series to Samford. Matt McLaughlin leads the team with a .338 batting average while the team is batting .235. McLaughlin is tied with Jaxx Groshans with 12 RBIs while three Jayhawks have one home run. As a team, Kansas is 23-34 in stolen bases.
Ryan Zeferjahn and Jeider Rincon will start the two midweek games. Zeferjahn is 3-2 with a 6.52 ERA and 24 RBIs while Rincon is 0-2 with a 7.88 ERA and 13 RBIs. Stephen Villines leads the team with four saves. He is 1-2 with a 4.43 ERA and 28 strikeouts.
