Karstadt Named National Gymnast of the Week

After being named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, Golden Gopher Justin Karstadt collected another honor. The sophomore was named the National Gymnast of the Week by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA).

In Minnesota's win over Nebraska, Karstadt had a statement all-around performance, scoring an 87.050. He became just the fourth gymnast in the nation to score above an 87.000, and first in the Big Ten Conference this season.

In addition to his all-around performance, Karstadt also won event titles on both rings and parallel bars. Each event score was above the 14.000 mark. By event, Karstadt scored a 14.250 on floor, 14.550 on pommel horse, 14.700 on rings, 14.650 on vault, 14.600 on parallel bars and 14.300 on high bar.

His all-around and rings performances were both personal records, while his scores on floor, pommel horse, parallel bars and high bar were each season highs.

The Golden Gophers will have a week off to fine tune before traveling to the 2017 Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championships from April 7-8 in Champaign, Ill.
