Gophers Compete Locally at HU

MINNEAPOLIS -- Members of the Golden Gopher women's track & field team competed locally at the Hamline Invitational Saturday. Allie Heifort and Natalie Manders won event titles in the throwing events, and Minnesota's unattached competitors won five more events at Hamline University's Klas Field.
Manders made her outdoor collegiate debut with a win in the discus, recording a mark of 43.93m (144-01), and Heifort won the hammer throw with her second-straight career-best mark at 52.07m (170-10).
Racing unattached, Titania Markland won the 400-meter dash in 54.51 seconds, Bethany Hasz won the 5,000-meter run in 16:38.67, and Meleah Biermaier won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.53.
The Gophers set meet records in three events while competing unattached as well. Ashley Ramacher won the high jump with a meet-record leap of 1.65m (5-05.00), and Minnesota's unattached 4x400-meter relay team of Markland, Allison Dugan, Val Larson, and Biermaier ran a meet record time of 3:50.12 to win.
Ryan Crotty made her collegiate debut, competing unattached. She recorded a meet record mark of 41.51m (136-02) as javelin runner-up.
Minnesota's distance runners recorded 11 career-best marks in the 1,500-meter run, including Sarah Klecker running 4:38.10 to lead the attached Gophers in fourth place.
The Gophers are also competing at the UCLA Legends Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif., this weekend.
