Gophers Win Five Titles on West Coast

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of Minnesota women's track & field team won four events on day two of the UCLA Legends Invitational on Saturday, ending the two-day meet with three individual crowns, two relay titles, and six runner-up finishes at UCLA's Drake Stadium.
The Gophers had a successful day in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. Kimberly Golding won the 100m hurdles in 13.31 seconds ahead of Emma Spagnola as runner-up in 13.43 seconds. Rachel Schow ran the sixth-fastest time in program history and took sixth at the meet in a career-best 13.89 seconds.
In the 400m hurdles invite section, Spagnola was second in 58.93 while Schow was fourth (1:00.86). Erin Huls won the unseeded section in a career-best 59.25 while Lindsey Smits also clocked a PR for third (1:01.80).
Minnesota won both the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Golding, Emerald Egwim, Spagnola, and Schow won the 4x100m in 45.40 seconds, clocking the sixth-best time in program history, while Minnesota won the 4x400m in 3:45.38.
Three more Gophers also earned runner-up finishes in their respective events on day two of the meet: Kiley Sabin (discus, 50.37m, 165-03), Bolade Jinadu (400m invite, 56.13), and Sophia Anderson (400m unseeded, 57.70).
In addition, Egwim moved into fourth on Minnesota's all-time list with a career-best mark of 23.84 seconds in the 200-meter dash, placing third at the meet.
On day one at the UCLA Legends Invitational Friday, Agnes Esser won the hammer throw with a mark of 60.04m, leading four Gophers among the top four finishers as Temi Ogunrinde was runner-up (59.67m), followed by Angie Guenther (59.22m) and Nina Horvath (57.31m).
Members of the team also competed locally at the Hamline Invitational on Saturday. Allie Heifort (hammer throw) and Natalie Manders (discus) won event titles in the throwing events, and Minnesota's unattached competitors won five more events at Hamline University's Klas Field.
Next weekend, the Gophers travel to Arizona for a pair of meets, the Mesa Classic in Mesa, Ariz., and the Sun Angel Classic hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., next Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8.
