Gophers Lead after 36 at Princeton

The Golden Gophers are the leaders following 36 holes of the Princeton Invitational. Riley Johnson leads the team in a tie for fith, and three Gophers are in the top 10.
Johnson carded a 1-under 141 to lead Minnesota, shooting a 1-under 70 in the first round and par 71 in the second. All five Gophers shot par or better in the first round, shooting a 5-under 279 as a team.
"We played one of our best rounds of golf as a team in the morning," said head coach John Carlson. "Throwing out an even-par 71 in 20- to 25-mile-per-hour winds was outstanding to be a part of as a coaching staff."
Rúnar Arnorsson is tied for seventh after a 2-under 69 in the first round for an overall 143. William Leaf handed in a 142 and is tied for 10th, shooting 1-under 70 for the first round. Peter Jones follows, shoot par in round one, tying for 17th. Rounding out the Gophers' lineup is Justin Doeden tied for 25th, tallying a 148 after a carding 1-under 70 in the first round.
"The 13-shot lead unfortunately evaporated over the next few hours but a few timely birdies to finish by Johnson and Jones helped to secure a two-shot lead heading into our final round tomorrow," Carlson said. "We are prepared to win as a team tomorrow."
Minnesota is followed by host Princeton and Seton Hall University at 7 over and 9 over, respectively.
The Maroon and Gold with begin the third and final round Sunday at 8:55 a.m. CT.
