Bring Your Dog to Saturday's Game!

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota will host No. 10 Long Beach State for three games as the final nonconference series of the season.

The Gophers are 29-15 overall and 16-5 after sweeping Penn State this past weekend. Micah Coffey was named Big Ten Player of the Week after hitting for the cycle at Penn State. Brett Schulze was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after setting a career high in strikeouts with eight in seven innings where he did not allow a run.

Minnesota has a .297 team batting average and is led by Jordan Kozicky's .357 batting average, which is second highest in the conference. The freshman has 40 hits in 112 at-bats and is currently on a 27-game on-base streak. Toby Hanson leads the team with 59 hits, 44 RBIs and 21 extra base hits. Jordan Smith, Matt Stemper and Alex Boxwell are tied with five home runs each. Boxwell also leads the team with seven stolen bases closely followed by Terrin Vavra who has six steals.

The Maroon and Gold have a 4.01 team ERA while Lucas Gilbreath leads all starting pitchers with a 2.30 ERA and 74 strikeouts. The lefty is also 5-0 this season and his ERA is third lowest in the Big Ten while opponents have a .167 batting average against versus him. Brian Glowicki has recorded 15 saves (most in the NCAA) in 23 appearances and has posted a 2.16 ERA and 30 strikeouts. Schulze is second on the team with 42 strikeouts. The freshman is 4-2 this season with a 4.20 ERA.

The Minnesota defense has a .980 fielding percentage and has turned 43 double plays so far this season. Cole McDevitt has thrown out 40 percent (6-15) of stolen base attempts.

The Dirtbags are ranked No. 10 by D1Baseball.com and are 30-15-1 overall after taking two out of three games versus Cal Poly.

Long Beach State has a .277 team batting average and are led by Ramsey Romano who has a .346 average. Romano also leads the team with 32 RBIs while Lucas Tancas leads with eight home runs. Jaren Duran leads the Dirtbags with 14 stolen bases.

Dave Smith leads all starting pitchers with a 1.83 ERA while Darren McCaughan has 80 strikeouts. Chris Rivera has converted seven saves in 18 appearances and is 0-1 with a 2.82 ERA and 34 strikeouts.

All-Time Series
The Dirtbags have won the only game between the two teams. The game was played in Long Beach, Ca. during the 1989 series and saw the Gophers fall 7-3.

Weekend Events
Saturday is Pups in the Park night where fans can bring their dogs to Siebert Field after they register them online. The first fans who bring their dogs will get a Pet Dog Dispenser while supplies last. Gopher Basketball's head coach, Richard Pitino will be throwing out the first pitch of the game.

Come celebrate Mother's Day with Gopher Baseball on Sunday. It will also be Signing Sunday, stay after the game to get your favorite student-athletes' autographs.

Weather Forecast
The weekend's weather forecast looks perfect for baseball. Friday is to have a high of 72 degrees and partly sunny while Saturday is 79 and sunny. The final game of the series on Sunday is supposed to have a high of 78 and partly sunny.

Parking
