Justin Doeden is tied for 10th through Day 1 of the NCAA Stanford Regional. He carded a 1-under 69 on a windy Monday at Stanford Golf Course. After two more rounds, the top individual not on one of the five advancing teams will earn a spot at the NCAA Championships.
Doeden played a 2-under front nine, birdying the first and eighth holes. He made a 30-foot birdie putt on the par-3 eighth.
After bogeys on 11 and 13, Doeden got back on track. He made par on the next two holes before draining a 12-foot eagle putt on the 500-yard 16th hole.
Doeden dropped back to 1 under with a bogey on 17 before closing his opening round with a par on 18. He tied for second in par-5 scoring at 3 under on the day, and had one of nine eagles by the field.
"Justin played a complete round of golf today under the pressure of an NCAA Regional," head coach John Carlson said. "He drove it in 10 of 13 fairways, hit 14 of 18 greens in regulation that included two balls on the fringe and had 31 putts. Stanford Golf Course has been host to many major amateur championships and is a great host course for NCAA Regionals."
The second round will begin Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. CT.
