Gophers Jump to No. 17

MINNEAPOLIS - The Golden Gopher women's track & field team comes in at No. 17 in the nation in the week seven NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Team Rankings released by the U.S. Track & Field and Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
Minnesota makes its season-debut in the top-25 after finishing second at the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend. The Gophers' No. 17 ranking is the program's highest national ranking since week three of the 2009 season.
No. 1 Oregon (Pac-12 champion), No. 2 Arkansas (SEC champion), No. 3 LSU (SEC runner-up), No. 4 Texas A&M, and No. 5 Georgia make up the nation's top five teams while USC, Kentucky, Florida, Texas (Big 12 runner-up), and Baylor rounded out the top 10 this week.
Big Ten champion Purdue comes in at No. 16, joining the Gophers as the lone B1G representatives among the women's top-25.
Minnesota also remains atop the USTFCCCA Women's Event Squad Leader list for the best foursome in the country by event in the hammer throw (squad average, 61.10m, 200-05). Agnes Esser, Temi Ogunrinde, Nina Horvath, and Angie Guenther all rank among the NCAA's top-45 hammer throwers this season.
The week eight USTFCCCA rankings are slated to be released on Monday, May 22.
