Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota will host Rutgers for a doubleheader Tuesday after the games were rescheduled due to weather.
The games were originally scheduled to be played April 7-9 but inclement weather on the east coast cancelled every flight, making Rutgers unable to fly out in time for a series.
The Gophers are 30-17 overall this season after winning one game of a three-game series versus No. 10 Long Beach State. This marks the first back-to-back 30 win seasons since the 2009-10 seasons. Minnesota is also 12-6 in the Big Ten after sweeping Penn State in their last conference series.
As a team, the Maroon and Gold have a .296 batting average and are led by Jordan Kozicky's .347 batting average which is fourth highest in the conference. Kozicky is currently has reached base in 30 consecutive games with a walk on Sunday. He now has a .459 on-base percentage.
Toby Hanson leads the team with 47 RBIs, fourth most in the Big Ten, while Jordan Smith, Matt Stemper and Alex Boxwell lead the team with five home runs each. Boxwell is also tied with Terrin Vavra with seven stolen bases.
Lucas Gilbreath's 2.45 ERA leads all Gopher starting pitchers and is fourth lowest in the conference. The lefty also leads the team with 80 strikeouts, fourth most in the Big Ten. Brian Glowicki has posted 15 saves in 24 appearances to go with his 2.08 ERA and 31 strikeouts. He leads the Big Ten in saves and is tied for second most in the NCAA.
About Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights are 19-29 overall and 7-11 in the conference after taking two games from Illinois this past week. Rutgers has a .280 team batting average and are led by Mike Carter who has a .343 batting average. Jawaun Harris leads with eight home runs while Carter has 32 RBIs. Harris also leads the team with 23 stolen bases.
Serafino Brito leads all starting pitchers with a 4.67 ERA and 44 strikeouts. Max Hermann has converted six saves in 21 appearances to go with a 2.43 ERA and 26 strikeouts. Ryan Fleming has made 24 appearances out of the bullpen and has a 3-0 record. He has posted a 6.03 ERA and struck out 32 batters.
All-Time Series
Rutgers leads the all-time series 4-5 with the last games coming in 2015. The Scarlet Knights took two out of the three games that series.
