Justin Doeden capped his collegiate golf career with a tie for 23rd place at the NCAA Stanford Regional. The University of Minnesota senior had a 54-hole score of 213, 3 over par, at Stanford Golf Course.
Doeden posted a 2-over 72 on Wednesday, starting his round on the 10th hole. After going 3 over on the first two holes, he made six consecutive pars before a bogey on 9.
For the second day in a row, Doeden started to heat up after the turn. He made birdies on three of the next five holes, including a 19-foot putt on the par-3 fourth hole. Doeden parred his last four holes.
Doeden turned in a season scoring average of 71.79, fourth-best in program history. He led the Gophers with 14 rounds under par this year.
From the Stanford Regional, Stanford, Baylor, Pepperdine, Oklahoma and North Carolina advance to the NCAA Championships as teams. The Sooners' Brad Dalke was the Regional medalist at 12 under. Travis Trice of North Florida will also advance after claiming the best individual finish for a non-qualifying team. He was 2 under.
Thank you Doeds for representing @GopherMGolf with class. It's been a pleasure for us to coach you. @jdoeden11 @JustinSmith_26 pic.twitter.com/QQPcujcqRv
