5/2/2017 12:00:00 AM | Women's Golf
Each week, Gopher Sports will feature different student-athletes on the women's golf team. This week, get to know senior Emie Peronnin of Fréjus, France.
How would you say your final season went?
I would say it went really well. It started a bit slower than I expected. I did not perform at the beginning the way I wanted to, but as the year went through it went better and better, and finishing the way I did at Big Tens is definitely the highlight of my career.
What were the biggest surprises and challenges this season?
The way I played at Big Tens was not a complete surprise but with the way I ended our past tournament the week before Big Tens was definitely sweet to have my game back three days later. One of the biggest challenges was to fight through legs injuries this season, I was fighting hamstring injuries through the season. It created some complication with my left leg. I took 2 and a half months off golf and working out from early November to January, but did not get better. During the Ohio State tournament I was not sure I would be able to finish the 36 holes day. It was definitely one of the biggest challenges this season.
Looking back on the past few seasons, what do you think you've improved on the most since freshman year?
I think the biggest thing for me that I improved since freshman year is my course management and my mental game. I always had a strong ball strike but through the years the biggest challenges was to be able to feel comfortable playing well and being under par but also being able to build resilience when I was not playing as well as I wanted. This season resilience is what helped me the most to score well.
What are some things you're still working on?
Mental game is something everyone golfer has to work on through their career, I am definitely going to keep working on being comfortable shooting low score and being comfortable when I am in a position to win a tournament.
What has been your favorite or most memorable moment this season/throughout your career?
This season I really enjoyed going zip-lining in Tallahassee with the team, it was a lot of fun. Golf wise this season was definitely the last nine holes at Big Tens, I made a big comeback after a tough morning to come back in a position of potentially wining the tournament. Throughout my career I would say the whole process of going to regionals my freshman year from the selection show to going to Oklahoma and playing with the team in regionals.
Even though you've lived here for a while now, what is the biggest difference between France and the US? What do you miss the most?
The biggest difference is the food, for me it was and is still really tough to get used to the food here. Another big difference is the different way of communication in France and in the US, which are on a complete opposite side of the spectrum and it was a big adjustment for me through the years.
What are your plans after college?
I am going to try to play professional golf, as of right now I am planning on playing the Ladies European tour Qualifying school in December and it will determine how much and what type of professional tournament I will get to play in the 2018 season.
