Gophers to Finish Off Big Ten Road Games

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota heads to State College, Penn. this weekend as they take on Penn State in their final Big Ten road trip of the season.

The three-game series will begin Friday with a 5:30 p.m. central time start. The Gophers are 26-15 overall after splitting a two-game midweek series with Georgia State and are 9-6 in the Big Ten.

Minnesota has a .291 team batting average, led by Jordan Kozicky's .364 average. Kozicky is also currently on a 24-game on-base streak. Toby Hanson leads the Maroon and Gold with 37 RBIs, 26 runs and 53 hits. Jordan Smith, Matt Stemper and Alex Boxwell are all tied with the five home runs while Boxwell leads the team with seven stolen bases.

The Gophers' team ERA sits at a 4.13 while Lucas Gilbreath leads all starting pitchers with a 2.59 ERA. The left hander also leads the team with 64 strikeouts while opponents have a .168 batting average against him. Brian Glowicki leads the NCAA with 15 saves and has a 1.85 ERA along with 29 strikeouts. Tim Shannon has made 23 appearances out of the bullpen and is 2-0 with a 3.16 ERA and 26 strikeouts.

Defensively, the Maroon and Gold have a .980 fielding percentage and have turned 41 double plays this season, the fourth most in the Big Ten.

About Penn State
The Nittany Lions are 14-29 overall and 2-12 in the Big Ten following a sweep by Iowa. As a team, Penn State has a .231 batting average. They are led by Jordan Bowersox who has a .333 batting average and leads with nine stolen bases. Willie Burger leads the team with four home runs and 22 RBIs.

Penn State has a 5.53 team ERA while Sal Biasi leads all starters with a 3.90 ERA. Biasi also leads the team with 72 strikeouts and Nick Distasio has three saves in 16 appearances out of the bullpen.

All-Time Series
Minnesota leads the all-time series with a 45-24 record. The last time the two teams met was in 2015 where the Gophers swept the Nittany Lions at Siebert Field.

Big Ten Standings
Minnesota currently sits in fourth place in the Big Ten while Penn State is in 11th, ahead of Northwestern and Purdue.
