SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Rising sophomore Ashley Ramacher competed in high jump and University of Minnesota alumna Jamie Cheever (Oiselle/Team USA Minnesota) raced in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final on day three of the 2017 USA Track & Field Outdoor Junior and Senior Championships held Saturday at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium.
Ramacher cleared 1.73m (5-08.00) to place fourth in high jump in the junior championship, and Cheever placed 13th in the senior final of the 3,000m steeplechase in 10:16.01. Cheever advanced past Thursday's first round with a 12th-place showing in 9:49.82, taking seventh in her heat to move on based on time.
On Friday, rising junior Taylor Wiebke competed in the senior high jump competition after qualifying with a Minnesota program record mark of 1.85m (6-00.75) at the Longhorn Invitational earlier this season. The competition opened at 1.80m (5-10.75), and Wiebke did not record a mark.
Earlier in the competition, rising senior Nicolle Murphy placed 11th in the javelin with a throw of 47.66m (156-04) and Gopher alumnae Liz Podominick finished seventh in the discus (55.20m, 181-01).
In the first round of the 1,500-meter run, fellow Gopher alums Gabriele Grunewald (Brooks) and Heather Kampf (ASICS/Team USA Minnesota) toed the line. Grunewald inspired the world by running 4:31.18 while undergoing chemotherapy while Kampf clocked a time of 4:15.40 to take 18th overall after suffering an injury in April.
The USATF Championships serve as the qualifier for the IAAF World Championships to be held in London Aug. 4-13.
