Gophers to Face Tar Heels in B1G-ACC Challenge
6/28/2017 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The University of Minnesota women's basketball will travel to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The teams will square off on Nov. 29. Tipoff time will be announced at a later date.
The Golden Gophers return 83 percent of their scoring from last season, including All-Big Ten Second Team selection Carlie Wagner, and bring in an exciting class of newcomers. Head coach Marlene Stollings and Minnesota continue to play a fast-paced brand of basketball, with the past three years netting the program's three highest single-season 3-pointer totals.
North Carolina has traditionally been a powerhouse under Hall of Fame head coach Sylvia Hatchell. McDonald's All-American and USA Basketball team member Janelle Bailey highlights the incoming recruiting class.
The Gophers and Tar Heels have never met in the context of the Challenge. They have faced each other four times previously, most recently in a close game at last year's Junkanoo Jam.
Minnesota is 4-6 overall in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Gophers earned a road victory at NC State in 2014, Stollings' first season.
