No. 4 Minnesota Defeats No. 13 Green Bay 75-58 on Fourth-Quarter Comeback

MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 4 seeded Minnesota women's basketball team (23-8, 13-5 Big Ten) took down the No. 13 seeded Green Bay (25-9, 17-3 Horizon Leage) Phoenix 75-58 at home Friday night at The Barn in front of a crowd of 10,355.
The Golden Gophers had four players score in double figures, led by Amaya Battle, who had 21 points and eight rebounds. Sophie Hart tacked on 19 points and six rebounds and Mara Braun helped out with 16 points and six rebounds. Tori McKinney added 10 points and four assists.
Minnesota out-rebounded Green Bay 35-31 in Friday's game, led by eight boards from Grace Grocholski. The Gophers also pulled down 11 offensive rebounds and scored 10 second chance points.
The Minnesota defense was a problem in Friday's game, forcing 17 Green Bay turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the other end of the floor. McKinney led the way individually for the Gophers with four steals.
How It Happened
Minnesota kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 11-10.
Minnesota kept the Phoenix from increasing their lead before going on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Brylee Glenn, to take a 22-15 lead. The Phoenix then came roaring back to take a 29-26 lead heading into halftime.
Green Bay continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 43-34 advantage before Minnesota went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 43-40 with 4:15 to go in the third. Green Bay countered and stretched its lead to 49-45 heading into the fourth. Minnesota knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 19 total points.
Minnesota came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 14-0 run to seize a 59-49 lead with 4:49 to go in the contest. The Gophers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 75-58 win. Minnesota took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 20 of its 30 points in the paint.
