EUGENE, Ore. - Madeline Strandemo punched her ticket to the 3,000-meter steeplechase final and Emma Spagnola earned Second Team All-American honors in the 100-meter hurdles as five Golden Gophers competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Eugene, Ore., on Thursday.

Strandemo placed fourth in her heat and sixth overall in the 3,000m steeplechase semifinals to advance to Saturday's final. She ran a time of 9:52.74, less than one second off her Minnesota program record time (9:51.83), and cruised to the NCAA final in her outdoor national championship debut.

Meanwhile, Spagnola placed 16th in the 100m hurdles semifinal in 13.31 seconds. Though not enough to move on to the event final, Spagnola's finish was good for her second All-American nod of the season after also picking up Second Team All-American honors in the 60m hurdles during the indoor season.

Emerald Egwim, Angie Guenther, and Temi Ogunrinde also represented the Maroon & Gold at Oregon's Hayward Field Thursday. Egwim took 20th in the 400-meter dash in 53.95 seconds, rounding out the Gophers competing on the track.

In the hammer throw, Ogunrinde threw 60.75m (199-03) to place 18th overall while Guenther posted a mark of 60.06m (197-00) to finish 21st overall as both made their NCAA debuts.

Action at the NCAA Championship continues on Saturday when Taylor Wiebke joins Strandemo in competing for the Gophers. Wiebke will make her NCAA debut in the high jump at 5 p.m. CT before Strandemo races in the 3,000m steeplechase final at 5:54 p.m. CT.
