University of Minnesota head softball coach Jessica Allister announced Wednesday the addition of pitcher Sydney Smith.
Smith will transfer from LSU for the upcoming season. The Maple Grove, Minn. native will have two years of eligibility left.
"We are very excited to welcome Sydney to the University of Minnesota and the Gopher softball program," Allister said. "Sydney will add experience and depth to our young pitching staff. We can't wait to get her on campus and into a Gopher uniform this fall."
In two seasons with LSU, Smith went 25-11 and holds a career ERA of 1.64. She recorded 129 strikeouts in 204 innings pitched. She was a 2016 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top-25 finalist going 13-4 with a 1.16 ERA in her first season.
In her career Smith has earned SEC Pitcher of the Week, USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week and Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week honors.
This fall Smith will join newcomers Hannah Bailey, Macy Gill, Ellee Jensen, Rachel Lowary, Anne Miller, Alexandra Thompson and Alex Velazquez.
