Player Profile: Emmit Carpenter
7/27/2017 12:00:00 AM | Football
In his first career attempt, Emmit Carpenter drilled the ball through the TCF Bank Stadium uprights under the lights against Oregon State last year, closing out the first half of the season opener. That was the start of something special.
Carpenter made 22-of-24 field goals and became the first Gopher to earn the Big Ten's Bakken-Andersen Kicker of the Year honor. He broke into the Minnesota record books scoring 109 points, which tied Dan Nystrom (109 points in 2000) for most all-time by a Minnesota kicker. His 109 points also tie him for second all-time with Nystrom for any Gopher behind Gary Russell (114 points in 2005).
On top of that Carpenter was named All-Big Ten First Team by the media and All-Big Ten Second Team by Big Ten coaches. He enters 2017 on the Lou Groza Award watch list.
