Egwim to Race at World Championships

MINNEAPOLIS - Senior Emerald Egwim has been named a member of Nigeria's 4x400-meter relay team for the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in London, England.
The IAAF World Championships begin Friday and continue through Sunday, Aug. 13. Preliminary heats of the women's 4x400-meter relay are set for 5:20 a.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 12 with the final to follow at 2:55 p.m. CT on Sunday, Aug. 13.
Egwim is one of 12 athletes selected to represent Nigeria at the meet. She joins Patience Okon-George, Yinka Ajayi, Margaret Bamgbose, and Abike Egbeniyi to make up the 4x400m relay team, including an alternate.
Earlier this summer, Egwim represented Nigeria at the NGC Sagicor NAAA National Open Championships at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. She placed 13th in the 200-meter dash in 24.16 seconds.
Egwim wrapped up her junior year as the 2017 Big Ten Conference champion in the 400m dash at the outdoor B1G meet. The Eagan, Minn., native was an NCAA qualifier in the 400m both indoors at outdoors, earning Second Team All-America honors with a 16th-place finish indoors and taking 20th outdoors.
