Gophers in the Polls: Sept. 20

Sept. 20, 2017 The University of Minnesota continues to represent at a high level as multiple Golden Gopher teams achieved national rankings this week. No. 1 Gopher Volleyball
Minnesota (11-0) remains the top-ranked team in the nation in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I Coaches Top 25 poll, claiming 40 of 64 first-place votes. Big Ten rival Penn State is second with 13 top tallies.

Previously: The Gophers escaped the Boise State Tournament with their first five-set victory of the season against the host Broncos on Friday night. The U of M also picked up victories over Oregon State and Idaho State on the weekend.

Up Next: The Maroon & Gold opens Big Ten Conference play this week at Maturi Pavilion as No. 20 Michigan comes to Minneapolis on Friday night. The Wolverines are 10-2 on the season. Michigan State (R.V.) comes to town on Sunday as the Gopher Athletics host a celebration of Kathleen Ridder across three home outings.

No. 3 Gopher Women's Hockey
Minnesota (26-8-5 a season ago) landed in the third-place position in the preseason U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) Division I Women's Poll released earlier this week. The Gophers claimed four first-place votes, while top-ranked Clarkson notched 10 and No. 2 Wisconsin just one.

Up Next: The Maroon & Gold will see their first action of the season this Sunday afternoon as the South Korean National Team visits Ridder Arena for an exhibition outing. The regular season begins the following week as Merrimack (Mass.) College comes to Minneapolis for a two-game set on Friday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Oct. 1.

No. 19 Gopher Women's Cross Country
Minnesota continues its ascent in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) rankings in week two, moving up four spots to 19th. The U of M also landed the top spot in the Midwest region per the coaches poll.

Previously: The Gophers had a bye last week in preparation of this weekend's major race.
