The Minnesota men's golf team is sixth through 36 holes at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. Angus Flanagan, Riley Johnson and Peter Jones are all in the top 10 at Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, Ariz.
The Golden Gophers posted a team score of 293 (+5) on Saturday and are 6 over for the tournament. They are two shots out of a tie for third, and five behind leaders Kent State and Georgia Tech.
Flanagan posted a 2-under 70 to move up the leaderboard. He is tied for seventh at 1 under overall. The freshman made four birdies during the second round. He is five strokes behind the leader, Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong.
Johnson and Jones are tied for 10th one shot behind Flanagan. Johnson carded a 74 on Saturday, and Jones notched an even-par round of 72 for the second day in a row. Johnson (11) and Jones (10) rank second and third in the field for birdies so far this weekend.
Rúnar Arnorsson is tied for 41st after a 77, and Thomas Longbella is tied for 69th after a 78.
Playing as an individual, Gus Minkin is tied for 25th. He posted a 72 on Saturday and is 4 over. Charlie Duensing is tied for 53rd after a 75.
The third and final round will take place Sunday. Minnesota's tee times start at 9:50 a.m. CT.
