Ben Frazzini (Medina, Minn.) helped Wayzata High School win Minnesota Class AAA state championships in 2015 and 2017 before arriving on campus to play for the Gopher men's golf team. He finished in the top 10 individually in both those years. Frazzini's home course, Windsong Farm Golf Club, played host to the 13th Annual Gopher Invitational earlier this September.
GopherSports: What was it like for you playing your first college tournament at your home course?
Ben Frazzini: It definitely made me feel more comfortable. That's for sure. On the first tee, I probably would've been a lot more nervous if it wasn't my home course. It kind of gave me a home vibe, especially playing with a few other guys on our team.
GS: What do you like so far about being a Gopher?
BF: I love all the guys on the team. We have great team chemistry. I love the level of play that everyone plays at. Instead of being number one at Wayzata, it's a lot tougher competition.
GS: Speaking of Wayzata, what are some of your favorite memories from the team state titles you won?
BF: Probably down the stretch, the feeling of being ahead on 16, 17 and 18 sophomore year and senior year winning.
GS: Do you have any favorite non-school tournaments you played in?
BF: The Minnesota State Open was fun. I went down to Mississippi for the Magnolia Amateur, which was fun. The Fargo Open was fun.
GS: What were some things that drew you to the Gophers' program during your recruiting process?
BF: The coaching staff. I wanted to stay close to home. All the guys on the team really drew me in. What Minnesota boy wouldn't want to play for the Gophers?
GS: Do you know what you would like to major in?
BF: Business and marketing.
GS: Who are your favorite golfers to watch?
BF: Probably Dustin Johnson. He can tear apart any golf course, his length.
GS: When did you first get into golf?
BF: As early as I can remember, probably when I was 2 or 3.
GS: What do you like to do outside of golf?
BF: Hanging out with friends. I like to go up to my cabin.
GS: What are some of your goals for the rest of your freshman year?
BF: To play in a couple events and to play well. I played well at the Gopher, so to keep it going and make a couple tournaments.
