Gophers Host Oz Memorial on Friday Night

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) -- The University of Minnesota men's cross country team kicks off the home schedule this weekend, hosting the Oz Memorial on Friday night at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn.
The women's six-kilometer race opens the competition at 6:30 p.m. CT with the men's four-mile race scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
Joining a small Minnesota contingency will be Creighton, Drake, Hamline, Minnesota State, North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
Last Time Out: IU Open
The Gophers recorded a runner-up finish last Saturday at the IU Open as the Maroon & Gold opened the 2017 season. Minnesota was led in the eight-kilometer race by a trio of top-10 finishes -- Charlie Lawrence and Evan Ferlic finished fifth and sixth, respectively, while Connor Olson posted a ninth-place performance. The Gophers will be back at the IU Championship Cross Country Course for the 2017 Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Oct. 29.
Lawrence Back as 'U' Captain
Redshirt senior Charlie Lawrencereturns for his second season as team captain of the Maroon & Gold men's program. A native of Foley, Minn., Lawrence earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors last year while also repeating as an NCAA All-Region honoree.

The Gophers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 23 with the 32nd annual Roy Griak Invitationla at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. One of the largest meets in the country, the Griak includes six collegiate races and four high school races and begins with the Suzy Wilson Women's Maroon III (Division III) Competition at 9 a.m. CT.
