D1Baseball: 2018 MLB Draft: Top College Seniors (Jan. 15, 2018 - $)
D1Baseball.com ranked Gopher Baseball senior first baseman Toby Hanson among the top seniors available for the upcoming 2018 MLB Draft.
Hanson broke out in the 2017 season with career highs in batting average, runs scored, RBIs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, and steals. His 75 hits, 57 RBIs, and 112 total bases each were team highs for Minnesota last year. He sits just eight RBIs away from 100 for his career while also boasting 29 doubles, five triples, and 11 homers in his first three seasons with the Gophers. The slugger continued to impress this past summer when he hit safely in 21-straight games competing for the Mankato MoonDogs of the Northwoods League, failing to reach base in just one of his 29 games before parting from the team at the All-Star break. Slashing .296/.360/.438 for his career, Hanson was named to the 2017 All-Big Ten Third Team as well as the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Hanson and the Gophers open the season on Friday, Feb. 16 on the road at Georgia Tech. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET in Atlanta.
