MINNEAPOLIS - Nayoka Clunis and Madeline Strandemo won event titles as six Golden Gophers represented the University of Minnesota women's track & field team at the Minnesota Open hosted by the Gopher men's track & field team at the Minnesota Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Strandemo won the 5,000-meter run in a career-best 16:46.81, followed by Megan Hasz (16:47.87) and Bethany Hasz (16:48.09), in a field of three. The race marked the first indoor 5,000m race of their careers for M. Hasz and B. Hasz as the duo made their debut competing in uniform on the track for the Maroon & Gold.
Nayoka Clunis won the shot put with a meet-record and career-best mark of 16.24m (53-03.50) to move into third in Gophers' history. She also took home top honors in the weight throw with another meet-record and career-best mark at 20.01m (65-07.75) to rank fourth among all-time Gophers.
Meanwhile, Gopher rookies Tess Keyzers and Erin Dunning competed unattached in both the shot put and the weight throw.
