Gophers Set for Gold Out; Host Wisconsin in Border Battle Matchup

MINNEAPOLIS – With three games remaining in the regular season Minnesota soccer continues its trek to secure a bid to the Big Ten Tournament when they host Wisconsin on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. Following the Border Battle, Minnesota welcomes Iowa to Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium for the regular-season home finale on Thursday, October 18 before traveling to Penn State Sunday, Oct. 21 to close out the regular season. The match against Iowa is set to air on Big Ten Network and will begin at 7 p.m.
GAME PROMOTIONS
Get all your Gopher gold gear ready because Saturday is a GOLD OUT! The first 150 fans will receive a Gopher soccer gold out t-shirt.
Those who attend the volleyball match on Friday, Oct. 12 against Illinois can present their ticket on Saturday for FREE admission to Saturday's match against Wisconsin.
PARKING INFO
Lots available for parking include Gibbs Farm lot, Gortner Avenue Ramp, SC101 Flat Lot, SC 175 Flat Lot and a select number of lots at the Les Bolstad Driving Range. Lot SC101 and Gortner Ave Ramp will charge $1/hour after 5 p.m. while the Bell Museum, Les Bolstad Driving Range and Lot SC175 will charge a flat rate of $6. Â
A shuttle is scheduled to run between all stops, excluding Les Bolstad Driving Range, and will drop all fans off right at ELR Stadium from their parking destinations. A second shuttle will be running from the Minneapolis East campus as well for students and fans. Pick up will take place at the Athlete's Village courtyard back by the MINNESOTA signage 30 minutes prior to kick off while pick up at Territorial Hall 20 minutes prior to kick off. The shuttle will leave ELR Stadium 15 minutes following the conclusion of the match.Â
BOCKIN GOES BACK-TO-BACK
For the second time in her career senior forward April Bockin scored in back-to-back matches with goals against Purdue and Indiana last weekend. Oddly enough the last time Bockin scored in back-to-back matches was against Indiana and Purdue back on September 23, 2016 and September 25, 2016.
NIELSEN'S TIME CARD
Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Nielsen has logged 1,390:27 in between the posts this season which ranks as the 10th most in the NCAA and third most in the Big Ten. During that time she has recorded five shutouts which ranks sixth in the Big Ten. Along with a 74.6 save percentage, Nielsen holds a 0.97 goals against average.
CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS
April Bockin and Molly Fiedler continue their journey up the Minnesota career assists list. Bockin with 24 assists is tied with Laurie Seidl for seventh all-time and is one away from moving up to be in a three-way tie for fifth most career assists. As for Fielder, with 23 assists she is one away from tying Bockin and Seidl for seventh all-time.
LEADING THE CHARGE
Minnesota continues to display a strong offensive presence outshooting their opponents this season with an average of 11.3 to 9.2 shots per game. A strong second half team the Gophers are outshooting their opponents 83-66.
SERIES HISTORY
Minnesota trails the all-time series 13-17-1 to Wisconsin. The Badgers have taken the last five meetings, two of which have come during the Big Ten Tournament. The two teams met twice last season, once in the regular season and in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal match. Wisconsin took the regular season meeting in overtime by a score of 1-0 before defeating Minnesota 2-0 in last year's Big Ten Quarterfinal.
