FRENCH LICK, Ind. - Even though the Gophers have a week off from competition, head coach Michele Redman kept busy with some golf of her own to play.

Redman competed in the Senior LPGA Championship this week and set a great example for her team, placing fourth out of 79 competitors with a final score of 215, one-under par.

"This week was a great event and it was fun to play competitively again," said Redman. "When in these tournaments, I can always find something while playing that I can use to help the team."

The field featured golfers from eight different countries, four World Golf Hall of Fame representatives and took place at the Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort. Redman was the runner-up at the event in its inaugural edition in 2017.

Coach Redman began the tournament on Monday with a strong start. She countered three bogeys in her first nine with four birdies in five holes and finished the first round at an even-par 72.

She had an even better second round, which started at four-under par through seven holes. Redman would add four strokes through the rest of the day, but bookended two bogeys with birdies to complete the second round with a two-under 70.

The third round began calmer for Redman, as she added just one stroke to her card and had one birdie to two bogeys. She had a steady last nine and shot par on each hole to finish the third round with a one-over par 73.

Redman has had a successful golf career that features two previous LPGA wins, and she will compete for Team USA in next year's prestigious Solheim Cup. She gets back to Gopher action on Monday when the team tees off at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown hosted by UNLV.
