2019 Schedule

The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team has released it's 2019 competition schedule, head coach Mike Burns announced Tuesday.

This year's schedule includes four regular season home meets. It will also be the first year that the Big Ten conference will honor a regular season champion in men's gymnastics.

"This is going to be an epic season with the first ever Big Ten Regular season champions being crowned," Burns said. "We'll be hosting Michigan in the first Big Ten dual meet of the season and then we host Penn State and Iowa the last weekend of the season. Those two meets will have a huge bearing on the regular season championship. Home advantage will be a big part of our success this year and I'm looking forward to competing in front of the best gymnastics fans in the nation."

The first chance to see this year's team compete in the Maturi Pavilion will be at the annual Alumni Meet on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. The alums have a 51-year win streak.

The Gophers will start the regular season with a pair of road meets at the Rocky Mountain Open and the Windy City meet in early January. The Windy City meet has historically hosted some of the top teams in the entire country.

Michigan comes to town for the Gophers first regular season home action of the year on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. The Maroon and Gold will then head to Iowa to start off February before hosting Arizona State. After the home stand against ASU, the majority of the squad will be off for a break while a few individuals will compete at the Winter Cup in Las Vegas in mid-February.

The Gophers will be put to the test right after the Winter Cup with road trips to Nebraska with UIC, Illinois with Stanford and Ohio State with Nebraska.

"Those three away meets in a row will really test this team's ability to rise to the occasion in some hostile territory," Burns said. "We'll find out a lot about our team on those three trips."

The Gophers end the regular season at home with a dual meet against Air Force followed by a tri-meet with Penn State and Iowa. They will travel to the Big Ten Championships in Iowa April 5-6 and the NCAA Championships will be held in Champaign, Ill. April 19-20.

"Overall, our schedule will give us a chance to compete against four of the top six teams from last year's NCAA Championships as well as every team in the Big Ten which year in and year out is the top gymnastics conference in the nation," Burns said. "I expect another exciting season out of these young men this year."

The team will provide a chance for fans to come to Cooke Hall to watch the Maroon and Gold Intrasquad meet on Thursday, Dec. 6. Follow us on Twitter for more details.
