Minnesota's receivers are growing under the guidance of position coach Matt Simon

Minnesota's young wide receivers have been producing this year and have grown under the coaching of Matt Simon. The Gophers have completed 61 passes this season and 57 of those passes have been caught by a wide receiver. That translates to 93.4 percent, which ranks first in the nation.

This is a drastic change from previous years. In 2016, Minnesota receivers were responsible for 69% of the team's receptions, as Drew Wolitarsky led the team with 66 catches. In 2015, Gopher receivers hauled in 62.5% of the teams completions and were led by KJ Maye's 73 catches.

This year's numbers are buoyed by the production of Minnesota's freshman class. Junior Tyler Johnson has a team-leading 22 catches, but freshmen Rashod Bateman (20 catches) and Chris Autman-Bell (11 catches) rank second and third on the team.

The Gophers already have two receivers who have 20 catches this year and are well on their way to three with Chris Autman-Bell. Minnesota have only one receiver (Drew Wolitarsky) catch more than 20 passes in 2016 and had three in 2015 (KJ Maye, Drew Wolitarsky and Eric Carter).
