She may have only moved from freshman to sophomore on the women's golf roster, but what a difference a year has made for Grace Kellar.

The Gophers recently wrapped up their fall season, and Kellar emerged as Minnesota's top player, leading the team in each of its four tournaments.

"Grace is very good," head coach Michele Redman said. "She's coachable, so she takes all of the advice and applies it and works hard, and that's why she is where she is."

Kellar immediately set the bar high for her second Gophers season at the Minnesota Invitational with new career bests in round, 54-hole score, finish and score to par with a two-under 214 and a second-round 68, good for a tie for third.

Her 68 was the best round by a Gopher since 2014, the eighth-best in program history and helped her to earn Minnesota's first Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor since 2015.

Kellar has made immense strides and didn't stop there. Last fall, she carded one top-20 finish, a tie for 17th. This season, she had one top-10 finish, two top-20s, and never placed outside of the top 40. Her best freshman fall score to par came at 6-over. A year later, she never finished above 5-over par, and shot two rounds under par. Her fall average has gone from a 76.18 to a 72.92, the best on the team and a new school record for the fall season.

"I kind of know what I'm doing now," Kellar said. "This year I have way more experience, so I can use that to help me and also the underclassmen coming up to make our team better in the future."

Kellar's skills speak for themselves, but something else has also been critical to her success: her mind.

"I've been able to keep my mistakes really small in tournaments, which has helped me a lot," Kellar said. "The coaching staff has really helped with my mental side of the game. That's something I really struggled with before coming here. Just in these two years I've seen it grow so much."

While Kellar has plenty to be proud of with the fall season behind her, her goals for the spring are all about the team.

"This last tournament, we didn't do great, but we definitely saw a lot of potential," Kellar said. "I think we'll finally break through in the spring and I'm really looking forward to that."
