Gophers Welcome Duluth for Exhibition Thursday
10/31/2018 12:26:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The University of Minnesota men's basketball team gets its final tuneup before the start of the season on Thursday, hosting Minnesota Duluth in exhibition action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with BTN Plus carrying the live broadcast.
The Bulldogs will travel south to Williams Arena for the third time, with all matchups coming as exhibitions and the Gophers taking the first two in 2001 and 2014. UMD was picked 10th in the Northern Sun Conference preseason poll, with junior forward Brandon Myer, an All-NSIC second team selection last year, leading the way. He averaged 19.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.0 steals per game a year ago, leading the team in points, rebounds, blocks and steals.
Minnesota returns seven players from last year's team, including Preseason All-Big Ten honoree Jordan Murphy. The 6-7 senior, who led the nation with 24 double-doubles and was a second-team All-Big Ten selection, was also named to the Karl Malone Award for the top power forward in the country. Four newcomers will join the team on the court, along with redshirt senior Matz Stockman who sat out last year after transferring from Louisville.
The season begins officially on Tuesday night as the Gophers host Omaha at 7:00 p.m.
