Robson Named to Mike Richter Award Watch List

MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey junior goaltender Mat Robson has been named to the 2019 Mike Richter Award watch list, Let's Play Hockey announced on Thursday. The sixth annual Mike Richter Award, which honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I men's hockey, will be announced at the 2019 NCAA Frozen Four in Buffalo, N.Y.
A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Robson played in 14 games during his first season with the Maroon & Gold in 2017-18, holding a 7-5-1 record. The netminder held a .933 save percentage and goals against average of 2.11. He recorded two shutouts in his first campaign with Minnesota with both coming against teams ranked No. 1 at the time.
The 98th season of Gopher men's hockey will see the Maroon & Gold take the ice for the first time under new head coach Bob Motzko, who returns to the University of Minnesota after helping the program claim back-to-back national championships in 2002 and 2003 as an assistant coach. Minnesota opens the season against the defending national champions in Minnesota Duluth with a home-and-home series (Oct. 6-7).
