Seven members of the University of Minnesota women's tennis team prepare for their upcoming trip to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational which is set to host four teams in addition to the Maroon and Gold from Nov. 2-4, 2018.
Due to recent injuries of key players the Gophers will get a unique chance to cycle through various doubles teams and lineup positions at the Notre Dame Invitational. Although the situation is less than ideal, the coaching staff applauds the team's ability to respond to change while continuing to compete at a high-level.
Unlike previous lineups for the Gophers, the 2018-19 roster hosts a multitude of verteran leadership with six of the eight current upperclassmen making the trip to South Bend this upcoming weekend. "Anytime you have veterans on the team to help and guide our new players adjust to our programs standards it definitely helps us get a jump start on the season," Thompson stated. "At various moments this Fall we have had different girls shine, so we are looking forward to seeing who steps up this weekend and leads the team."

The Gophers will compete alongside teams from Notre Dame, Tennessee, DePaul and Ohio State in their last tournament of the Fall season and will be represented by Caitlyn Merzbacher, Bita Mancera, Camila Vargas, Tina Kreinis, Cammy Frei, Tiffany Huber and River Hart.
Head coach Catrina Thompson will see countless familiar faces as she returns to her alma mater where she was once a three-time ITA All-American, team captain, and former assistant coach for the Fighting Irish. "I'm a Gopher now and I've been honored and appreciated every minute of my time coaching my girls and this team at Minnesota since stepping foot on campus a little over a year ago," Thompson said. "Notre Dame always holds fond memories and is a special place to me, but overall it is a great opportunity to play some of the best teams in the country."Due to recent injuries of key players the Gophers will get a unique chance to cycle through various doubles teams and lineup positions at the Notre Dame Invitational.
