MINNEAPOLIS – Director of men's golf John Carlson and associate head coach Justin Smith announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to join the Minnesota men's golf program.

Signing NLIs with the Golden Gophers are Harrison Arnold and Connor Glynn, who will both join the team for the 2019-20 season.

A native of Ascot, England, Arnold will become the third member of the team to hail from England, joining sophomore Angus Flanagan (Woking) and freshman Harry Plowman-Ollington (Surrey). Arnold is the captain of his county golf team and ranked fifth for boys under 18 in England. He took home the 2018 Peter McEvoy Trophy after winning the prestigious junior tournament, joining notable past winners including Lee Westwood and Justin Rose.

Among his other notable accomplishments include a third-place finish at the 2018 England Boys Order of Merit, fourth place at the 2018 Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters and seventh at the 2018 Scottish Boys Stroke Play.

"We're thrilled to have Harrison, what a talent," Carlson said. "He exudes the passion we look for in a recruit. His competitiveness is as high as any recruit we've encountered. I know that he's willing to do anything from a golf standpoint to make an impact on our program right away."

"I am excited and honored to be joining the University of Minnesota Men's golf team," Arnold said. "Coach Justin Smith and Director of Golf John Carlson have shown great faith in me. I look forward to repaying that faith by performing to the best of my ability and supporting the team to achieve its goals over the next four years and beyond."
Glynn hails from Waconia, Minn., and helped Waconia High School to its first Minnesota State High School League section championship after taking first place with a 140. He has maintained a top-10 state ranking for his class for the last two years, climbing as high as second last season. A four-year captain, Glynn tied for 11th at the state tournament as a sophomore and tied for 20th as a junior.

Glynn also tied the Minnesota state record by carding a nine-under 63 at a conference meet this past May and won the 2018 Oakdale Invitational. After competing for five years, Glynn earned his first AJGA Champion title in July at the WinCraft/McArthur Towel & Sports Future Legends Tournament. Off the course, Glynn has maintained a 3.98 grade point average in the classroom and has been a member of the National Honor Society since his sophomore season.

"Connor is an incredible talent coming in to our program," Smith said. "When we talk about a student-athlete and what that epitomizes, Connor is right there at the top of the list with anyone we've seen come into our program lately. Incredible things that he's going to bring to our program: values, passion, hard work and a positive attitude every day at practice and competition. We can't wait to bring him in and keep this momemntum going in the direction we want for Minnesota golf."

"It has been a dream to golf for the Gophers," Glynn said. "I am so honored and look forward to begin a part of the team this coming fall. Go Gophers!"
