WESTFIELD, Ind. – A shutout effort from Minnesota soccer Friday afternoon in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal match against Nebraska at Grand Park sent the Gophers to their second tournament championship match in the last three season. The Gophers (11-8-1) used a multi goal effort from Big Ten Forward of the Year April Bockin be to punch their ticket to the championship game defeating the Cornhuskers (9-7-5) in a tightly contested 2-0 match.

"We knew it was going to be a battle throughout the whole game and to get that first goal in the first three minutes, it really put us on that front foot," said Bockin. "Our back line has done so well for us this year. They have been doing a really good job of keeping us in these games."

Wasting no time getting on the scoreboard, the Gophers took the opening kickoff and turned it into a goal just two minutes and 25 seconds into the match. It was none other than Bockin who hit it with power and accuracy to place it just under the cross bar. Molly Fiedler aided the game's opening goal recording her 26th career assist which now moves her up to a three-way tie for third all-time with Nicole Lee and Jennifer McElmury.

The defense held strong in the first 45 minutes allowing no shots on goal despite five Nebraska corner kicks. That dominance continued in the second half as the Gophers picked up a team save on the Huskers first shot of the second half following a corner kick in the 77th minute. Minnesota extends their streak to 403 minutes without allowing a goal to Nebraska which spans back to the 2015 season.

Minnesota put the icing on the cake in the 88th minute from who other than Bockin. Celina Nummerdoor found Bockin on the far side flank to pick up her second assist of the year.

The Gophers will clash in a rematch with Penn State for the Big Ten Tournament title on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. CT. The match will air live on the Big Ten Network.
