Bockin Selected for Third Team All-America

University of Minnesota's April Bockin was named to the 2018 NCAA Division I Third Team All-America after an outstanding season by the senior forward. She is one of only 50 women in the country to garner the honor this year and is the first ever Gopher to be selected as an All-American by the United Soccer Coaches organization.
Bockin's leadership this season saw the Gophers claiming the title of Big Ten Tournament champions, largely thanks to her having scored all three Gopher goals during the tournament. Their performance in the conference tournament enabled Minnesota to make a run at the NCAA Tournament, in which they defeated Auburn 2-0 to claim the program's first postseason road win. Bockin notched an assist on the game-winning goal, allowing the Gophers to advance to the second round where the team eventually fell to No. 4 UCLA.
"April is a special player and a special person that we have loved having in the program," head coach Stephanie Golan said. "She has grown tremendously over the past 4 seasons. This year, when our team needed a goal scorer, April stepped up and made it happen. She emerged as a leader in our attacking group, and this is an honor that was well-earned. We are so proud of her!"
Bockin has earned her place in the Minnesota record books after finishing her career with 27 assists (third all-time), 79 points (eighth all-time) and nine game-winning goals (sixth all-time). Her postseason awards continue to roll in as she is recognized for both the athletic and academic aspect of her performance as a student-athlete.
