Gophers to Face Auburn in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament
11/5/2018 5:02:00 PM | Soccer
MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota soccer will be making their third NCAA Tournament appearance in four years and 11th NCAA appearance in program history. The Gophers will travel to Auburn, Ala. where they will take on Auburn in the opening round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. CT.
"For us to go the run that we did at the end of the year here through the tournament is fantastic to put ourselves in the position to play a team like Auburn," said Head Coach Stefanie Golan. "It could be a quick turnaround and we have to get our team ready to go, but high-level soccer is the best kind of play."
The Gophers earned the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid to the postseason after being crowned tournament champions following a tightly contested battle against No. 15-ranked Penn State. Minnesota won their second tournament title in three years after advancing in penalty kicks, 5-4.
Senior forward April Bockin was named Offensive Most Outstanding scoring all three of Minnesota's tournament goals along with connecting on a penalty kick in the final. Pitching three-straight shutouts, sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Nielsen was named Defensive Most Outstanding Player of the tournament while collecting 10 saves in the three game stretch. Senior midfielder Emily Heslin was also named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team as the Gophers' captain played in every single minute of the tournament.
Tickets are now on sale through the Auburn Ticket Office. Fans can purchase tickets online by clicking here or call the main ticket office at 334-844-4040.
Prices are $8 for the general public, and $3 for seniors ages 65 and up. Children 12 & under.
