Five Gophers Named Academic All-Region

The University of Minnesota women's soccer team had five student-athletes named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-North/Central Region Team. The recognition honors standout student-athletes for their performance both on the field and in the classroom.
Forward April Bockin was recognized as a member of the First Team Academic All-Region. In the classroom, the Kinesiology major holds a 3.80 GPA after six semesters. On the field, she totaled 13 goals, seven assists and five game-winners this season, which were crucial components to Minnesota's 2018 postseason run.
Midfielders Emily Heslin and Molly Fiedler earned Second Team Academic All-Region honors. Heslin is a Marketing major with a 3.58 GPA. The two-time team captain tallied one goal and three assists for Minnesota this year. Fiedler has a 3.77 GPA and majors in Family Services. The Third Team All-Big Ten honoree contributed three goals and eight assists this season and will graduate as the players with the second-most consecutive starts in program history for the Gophers.
Two Golden Gophers were named to the Third Team Academic All-Region after their performances in the 2018 campaign. Emily Peterson's 3.68 GPA as well as her game-winning goal against Auburn in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament earned her a spot on the team. The Supply Chain Management & Account major was also a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree this year. Fellow defender and Third Team member Nikki Albrecht touts a 3.69 and majors in Kinesiology. She notched one goal and four assists on the field for the Gophers this season.
To earn United Soccer Coaches Scholar honors, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA throughout their career, be a junior or above in academic standing, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team.
