Minnesota Receives No. 28 Preseason Ranking in Collegiate Baseball's Fabulous 40

TUCSON, Ariz. – A year removed from a trip to the NCAA Super Regional round, the Gopher Baseball team earned the no. 28 national ranking from Collegiate Baseball in the organization's 2019 Preseason Fabulous 40 Poll released Tuesday.
No. 1 LSU, 39-27 a season ago, edged out No. 2 Vanderbilt (35-27) for the top billing by just one point, 496-495. No. 3 UCLA was again just a point behind at 494. No. 28 Minnesota, which finished 2018 with a 44-15 record, defeated UCLA twice at the NCAA Minneapolis Regional to advance to the Super Regional in Corvallis, Oregon. Defending College World Series Champion Oregon State earned the No. 7 ranking in the poll.
The Gophers are the top-ranked Big Ten team in the poll, and the team's 2019 schedule features four opponents in the Fabulous 40. Minnesota takes on the seventh-ranked Beavers on Sunday, Feb. 17 and Friday, March 8; No. 22 N.C. State in a three-game road series March 1-3 in Raleigh; No. 34 Illinois in a three-game Big Ten series at Siebert Field on April 12-14; and No. 39 Michigan in Ann Arbor on April 5-7. The Maroon & Gold also match up with nine opponents receiving votes outside the top-40 in Washington, Oklahoma, Long Beach State, Indiana, Ohio State, Nebraska, Gonzaga, San Diego, and Milwaukee.
