We are spending five (ish) weeks introducing you to the Gophers freshmen class in the return of our "First Pitch" series. This week meet Sioux Falls, S.D. native Ali Lindner

Playing for the South Dakota Renegades, Lindner helped the squad to a ninth place finish at PGF Nationals in 2017, a runner-up finish at the 2016 PGF Nationals and USA Softball of South Dakota 14U, 16U and 18U State Championships. She also holds school records in shot put and discus.

Gopher Sports: How did you decide on Minnesota?

Ali Lindner: I loved the family atmosphere and the coaches. It was also nice that it wasn't too far away from home.

GS: How was your fall ball experience?

AL: It was awesome. It was a really fun experience and I can't wait for the spring!

GS: How have the interactions with your teammates been going?

AL: Really well. I feel that I can talk to anybody about anything, which is really nice being a freshman.

GS: Is there anything the coaches are having you personally work on or the team as a whole?

AL: The team has been doing leadership activities and have been working together to build character.

GS: What is it about the game of softball that you love?

AL: One of the biggest things about the game of softball that I love is the feeling of winning with your team. The celebration after the game is one of the best feelings in this world.

GS: What activities do you enjoy outside of softball?

AL: I love exploring the outdoors with my friends. I also love listening to music.

GS: If you could hit a home run off any celebrity who would you choose and why?

AL: Melissa McCarthy because she would say something hilarious after.

GS: Have you thought about what your walkup song will be this year?

AL: I have! I really like certain parts of the song Purple Lamborghini and Alive (of course the clean version).

GS: You are stuck on an elevator for an entire day but could have any one teammate with you. Who are you choosing and why?

AL: I would definitely choose Emma Burns because we constantly are making jokes about everything life throws us. We also have very similar personalities so it would make the time fly by.
