Zumwinkle Earns WCHA Weekly Honor

Grace Zumwinkle is this week's WCHA Forward of the Week after leading the league with six points last weekend.
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota sophomore Grace Zumwinkle has been named the WCHA Forward of the Week after leading the No. 2 Golden Gopher women's hockey team to a non-conference road sweep at Yale with 7-1 and 3-1 wins last weekend. The award marks Zumwinkle's first weekly award of the season and third weekly award of her career.
Zumwinkle led the NCAA and the WCHA with six points (4g-2a) over the weekend. Her four goals came on just seven shots, good for a .571 goals per shots on goal ratio ranked second in the WCHA. Zumwinkle was one of three WCHA players to record a hat trick over the weekend, and she also recorded one blocked shot and was plus-five for the Gophers' series with Yale.
In Minnesota's game one 7-1 win, Zumwinkle recorded a career-high five points (3g-2a). The Excelsior, Minn., native scored a natural hat trick in the second period to put Minnesota up 6-1 heading into the third period. She also assisted the Gophers' first two goals of the game, including winning a face-off and finding Taylor Wente for the eventual game-winner. Zumwinkle's three goals came on six shots on goal, and she was plus-four for the game after being on the ice for six of Minnesota's seven goals, including two power-play goals.
In game two against the Bulldogs, Zumwinkle sealed the 3-1 win with an empty-net goal in the final minute, marking her team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Zumwinkle and the Gophers return to action at Ridder Arena this week when the Gophers host Robert Morris in the final series of the 2018 calendar year. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. CT Friday and 1:07 p.m. CT Saturday.
