Duo Earns WCHA Monthly Awards

Grace Zumwinkle and Taylor Heise were honored as WCHA Players of the Month for November.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Sophomore forward Grace Zumwinkle and freshman forward Taylor Heise were honored as WCHA Players of the Month, Powered by GoodWood Hockey, for November 2018. Zumwinkle earned her second WCHA monthly award of her career, taking home WCHA Foward of the Month accolades, while Heise earned her first WCHA Rookie of the Month nod after the Golden Gophers posted a perfect 7-0-0 record during the month of November.
Zumwinkle and Heise contributed to Minnesota's average of 5.71 goals for per game and helped the team score 40 total goals during the month, both tops among WCHA teams. The duo helped the Gophers lead the WCHA by outscoring opponents 40-14 for a +3.71 scoring margin during November, and both played on the WCHA's top power play during November with a .333 power play percentage.
On the way to her WCHA Forward of the Month award, Zumwinkle led the WCHA with seven goals in seven games and was tied for the WCHA lead with teammate Nicole Schammel with 11 points (7g-4a) during November. Zumwinkle's seven goals included two power-play goals and one game-winning goal, and she was plus-eight in the seven games.
She was tied for the WCHA lead with two power-play goals and was one of four WCHA players to score a hat trick during November. Zumwinkle was plus-eight in Minnesota's seven games. She also led the WCHA with 34 shots on goal and an average of 4.86 SOG/game during the month.
Meanwhile, Heise led WCHA rookies with eight points, six assists, 1.14 points per game, 0.86 assists per game, one power play point on one power-play assist, one game-winning goal, and 50 faceoff wins during November. She was plus-six for the month. Heise scored the overtime game-winning goal in Minnesota's 4-3 win on the road at St. Cloud State.
The Lake City, Minn., native was named to the Windjammer Classic all-tournament team and earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors after tying her career-high with three points (1g-2a) in Minnesota's 6-2 win on the road at Vermont.
Zumwinkle, Heise, and the Gophers return to action at Ridder Arena this week when the team hosts Robert Morris in the final series of the 2018 calendar year. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. CT Friday and 1:07 p.m. CT Saturday.
