Scobee, Gophers Shut Out Robert Morris

Minnesota ended the first half of the regular season with a 5-0 win over Robert Morris.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Taylor Heise scored two goals and Sydney Scobee earned a 30-save shutout as the No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team sealed a non-conference series sweep with a 5-0 win over visiting Robert Morris at Ridder Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Minnesota (17-2-1, 9-2-1-0 WCHA) received goals from Heise (2g), Kelly Pannek, Taylor Williamson, and Alex Woken along with two-point games from Emily Brown (2a) and Amy Potomak (2a). The Gophers outshot the Colonials 33-30 for the game as Lauren Bailey made 28 saves for Robert Morris (8-10-4, 6-1-1 CHA).
"An awesome game here tonight, and a great way to end the first half," head coach Brad Frost said. "We got contributions from everybody. Scobee, with a great effort in net gaining her second shutout as a Gopher. All of our lines produced tonight, which has been a broken record for us, but we believe so strongly in that. It's just been a lot of fun to go on a run, going 10-0 after the Four Nations break, which is something we had talked about as a team, and we can continue to get better as a team. We are starting to really see who this team is and who we can be, and forming an identity as to what we are about."
The Gophers took a 2-0 lead after period one on a pair of special teams goals. Heise put the Maroon & Gold on the board with a power-play goal at the 11:18 mark of the opening frame before Pannek scored her second short-handed goal of the season at the 14:44 mark.
The second period saw Minnesota extend its lead to three when A. Potomak intercepted a puck in the RMU zone and found Williamson in the slot. Williamson slid the puck past RMU's Bailey for her sixth goal of the season with 9:09 remaining in the middle frame.
Woken scored her second goal of the series to put the Gophers up 4-0 just 1:39 into the third period when she poked through a rebound off a shot by A. Potomak, and Heise then sealed the win with her second tally of the game when she buried the rebound off a shot by Catie Skaja with five minutes remaining in the game.
The Gophers were one-for-three on the power play while holding Robert Morris scoreless on three power-play opportunities along with scoring one shorthanded goal.
Minnesota now has three weekends off from competition for the holiday break. The Gophers return to action in 2019 by hosting the Minnesota Cup on Saturday, Jan. 5 and Sunday, Jan. 6 when the Maroon & Gold welcomes Minnesota State, St. Cloud State, and Minnesota Duluth to Ridder Arena for the four-team tournament.
