Minnesota Falls in Regular Season Finale

MADISON, Wis. - The No. 7 Golden Gopher women's hockey team dropped game two of the Border Battle by a score of 1-0 on the road at No. 1 Wisconsin in front of a second-straight sold-out crowd at LaBahn Arena Saturday evening.
Minnesota (20-10-3, 13-8-3-2) surrendered the game's lone goal when UW's Maddie Rolfes scored at the 16:09 mark of the first period. The defensive battle ended with the teams combining for just 38 shots on goal as the Badgers had an 22-16 advantage for the game.
The Gophers were 0-for-4 on the power play, including an abbreviated 4-on-3 advantage, while going perfect on the penalty kill at 3-for-3.

All four games between the Gophers and Badgers were one-goal games this season, but Wisconsin (29-3-2, 20-2-2-2 WCHA) earned the sweep to cap the regular season on the road in Madison, Wis., after taking game one, 4-3.
For the series, the Gophers were led by Sydney Baldwin's two-goal effort in game one. Grace Zumwinkle also posted multiple points in game one with one goal and one assist in the Border Battle.
No. 3 seed Minnesota begins the 2018 postseason by hosting No. 6 seed St. Cloud State in a best-of-three series in the WCHA First Round next weekend. Game times are set for 7:07 p.m. CT Friday, 4:07 p.m. CT Saturday, and 4:07 p.m. CT Sunday (if necessary) with a trip to the 2018 WCHA Final Faceoff on the line.
No. 2 seed Ohio State hosts No. 7 seed Minnesota State and No. 4 seed Minnesota Duluth hosts No. 5 seed Bemidji State in the other two WCHA First Round series. The WCHA regular-season champion Badgers have a first-round bye straight to the WCHA Final Faceoff, which will be held at Ridder Arena on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4.
